Is This The Dumbest Thing Ever Written On PC and Free Expression???: Matthew A. Sears: "Why SJWs are the True Defender of Free Speech"

Honestly...this may be the most laughably idiotic thing I've ever read...on any topic.
And you know what? I'm not only going to say that I'm not going to waste my time shredding it...I'm actually going to do it. Er...not do it. You know what I mean. Honestly, it's just to stupid to waste any time on.
Especially since Cheryl Misak's new book on Peirce, Ramsey and Wittgenstein came in the mail...

How's the book?

Still just a summary of Peirce thus far, and I'm not on board with some of Misak's interpretations--but good. I haven't gotten to any of the stuff about Ramsey yet.

I know almost nothing about Ramsey..I am much more curious about the link between Peirce and Wittgenstein. I mean, I can easily see how their ideas are similar, but I never thought to connect the two. I'd certainly spend more time on Peirce if anyone at my school knew anything about him.

Well..someone does know a bit about him, but I've learned that he's not very helpful with such matters. I hope you can guess who I am talking about..

I've got a guess...

Yeah, not many departments have any Peirce people worth a damn. On the bright side, you and I could be deluded about CSP's value... Not much of a bright side...

Man, wish you were still here. This Peirce class this semester is *packed* with great students from previous classes. Be great to have you in there. (Technically, it's American Phil...so I feel obligated to do some James and Rorty and shit...but, honestly, they don't deserve more than a couple of weeks.)

Embarrassingly, I haven't spent nearly enough time with "Consequences of Four Incapacities." This class is giving me an excuse to put some more work into it.

Yeah I walked into his office the first week I arrived all bright eyed and asked "do you know of any recent works on Peirce's categorics/phenomenology, and he replies "I don't know you can try Google," and that was that. I get to TA for him this semester too! Hooray for terminal master's programs!

I miss the old stomping grounds. You guys actually give a shit about the students. I would have loved to be a part of that American Phil. class. You should throw them some Royce too. Blow their minds with the argument from error and all that. Royce is underrated too IMO. Although his coziness with Hegelianism is likely to turn many people off. Peirce of course has his commitments to aspects of Hegelianism, but it's much more..subtle.

Consequences... is a really interesting paper, but I, like you, haven't had a chance to really engage with it. I spent too much of my time on Evolutionary Love-- which I really like btw. Almost makes me want to become a christian again..but I'll stick with my meataxe pantheism for now.

All of my focus is on Bas van Fraassen at the moment. The Scientific Image is such a fun book. I'm also taking Plato's republic and Aristotle's metaphysics this semester. I don't think philbio is going to help me much in the long run. I'm also considering taking the set theory class, but I didn't do as well as I wanted in symbolic logic, so maybe I should avoid it?

Anyway, keep it up with the Peirce material. Maybe someone from that class will actually be able to do something with it one day.

Well, in The Person In Question's defense...almost nobody knows anything about that...

Shit, dude, I know absolutely no Royce whatsoever. You'd have to come up and teach it.
But, yeah...Peirce has driven me to pull down some Hegel and get on it.

"Evolutionary Love" FTW. Also crazy pantheism.

Easy for me to say, but: doing less-well than you wanted in logic is a reason *in favor* of taking set theory. Also, I love set theory.

The Bas...I went through a van Frassen phase...*The Scientific Image* is pretty damn cool.

Hang in there, bro...you got the right stuff.

Yeah, set theory is pretty cool. I'm just bad at math, and I'm being a baby. The notation makes my brain melt, and I feel like I have to approach it more slowly and carefully than other students.

Not that I can't understand the ideas, conceptually. I just sometimes lose track of what is going on when the notation is introduced.

I'm not entirely sure what to do about this.
