I personally don't understand why anything more than semiautomatic rifles, pistol or shotgun are legal. Seriously, I don't.
They sseem like an obvious legal hack around the definition of automatic weapon. Someone should have closed the loophole.
They've *got* to undermine accuracy...but that doesn't matter much if you're firing into a gigantic crowd. It's pretty clear that this asshole had put together a coherent plan: get up high and shoot down (thus increasing both range and damage), and making accuracy less relevant. And trade accuracy for a higher fire rate.
The sonofabitch.
And have multiple rifles with lots of loaded clips, tripods and other mounts to stabilize the guns, and cameras to cover his six so he knew when the game was up.
And now other people know how deadly such an attack can be.
