Is Trump Laying The Groundwork For A Saturday Night Massacre?

My inclination is that people should prepare themselves now to get out in the streets and stay there, should this happen. I don't say that lightly. I'm not wild about that sort of thing. But if it were to happen, you don't want to have to think clearly and deliberate effectively. And you don't want to give yourself an opportunity to worm out of it. Think through it now. Make your decision.
And I say this despite having certain doubts about the investigation--e.g. I don't see why Mueller should be able to investigate Trump's finances. (Not that my doubts about this matter, as I barely understand what's going on.)

Probable cause is enough for Mueller to get a crack at Trump's finances. And the various Russian Connection real estate deals almost certainly count here. Deals like those are very frequently money laundering.

Could be, but doesn't really matter for my purposes: I have doubts about the investigation, but think that firing Mueller is a red line, almost no matter what.

Looks like enough people believe that also to be the case (that firing Mueller would be a red line) that Trump has been (at least temporarily) dissuaded from taking such action, according to a couple of news stories out today.

That's good to see. In my estimation, the consequences of such an act would really be determined by the Republican Congressional response; if they decide to throw all their weight behind the partisan bandwagon, well... I think our society is sufficiently divided at this point and flooded by partisan "news" that we wouldn't be able to respond as a people independently of Congress.

At this point, if the right or the left goes full partisan on an issue, I'm afraid intransigence is the best outcome, and disaster is the worst.

I hope you're right--and I'm inclined to agree about the Republicans.

Of course I still have PTSD from the aftermath of election 2000...visions of angry Republicans demonstrating and quasi-rioting to stop the recount while Dems all sat on our hands, politely asking for democracy.
