That's a great photo of the SR-71, showing how they leaked fuel unless they were flying fast enough to heat the fuselage and squeeze the gaps shut. Just a crazy aircraft.
I was trying to figure out what those streaks were!
But I thought it only leaked fuel while it was *cold*, on the runway, and then the gaps sealed up as the parts expanded.
Yes, that's right. But it's only at Mach speeds that the heat goes up, not just idling near the speed of sound.
