Comrade Trump: Russia Worked To Help Trump Win Presidency

As far as I understand it, there isn't any hard evidence that Russia tipped the scales in favor of Trump, however this seems analogous to something that I've heard you say about the 2000 election:

Bush seems to have won the election fair and square, but dammit if he and his campaign didn't try to steal it. I think that it would do the public well to make this sort of distinction in the Russia case.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, I agree.

No evidence yet that Russia tipped the scales... I suppose not even any real evidence that they helped at all.

But, to some extent, it's the thought that counts...

I think the most obvious direct evidence we have is rather well known, actually; Putin praises trump as a "smart" or even "brilliant" man.

There is approximately zero chance, of course, that he actually thinks this is true.

Indeed.

Putin's too smart to think that Trump is smart.

Since Trump won MI, PA, and WI by about 80,000 votes total, less than 1% in each state, I'm not sure we need a smoking gun here in order to connect the dots. The CIA has concluded that Russia tried to throw the election for Trump, we have an idea of how they did it, all that's missing is a proven causal link. But if the intent and the methods are clear enough, and the election was decided by such a thin margin, isn't it reasonable to conclude that the causation is likely there?

Yeah, I'm trying to be really circumspect...but I don't disagree.

I'm gonna quibble here:

It seems that the word Putin used translates more closely to 'colorful' or 'bright' or 'flamboyant.' I doesn't seem like Putin was complimenting Trump's intelligence or policy stances or whatever.

I don't know if this changes much, but I think that it's worth stating.

Here's the disambiguation from Politifact:

I hear you on the need to be cautious. But I'm losing patience with the abundance-of-caution approach on this issue as the evidence keeps piling up, and I think too much caution may have been very damaging in Obama's handling of this. I think the analysis here is on point and raises very grave issues for the country: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/12/trump-mcconnell-putin-and-the-triumph-of-the-will-to-power.html
