Winston Smith said...: Yeah, I'm not sure how he gets away with that. I'm still furious at everybody involved in that...but, like, it seems, everybody else, I've always basically forgiven Powell. It's embarrassing that I think it's largely because he seems likable.; 9:49 PM

Winston Smith said...: I do not disagree. And I'd think that yours was the more objective position. I think most people are driven by a largely subjective factor: he's likable.

OTOH, he seems to have been tricked / lied to himself to some extent...so that's a sound excuse to whatever extent it's true.
