That Cruz Thing

Is that for real?
I have absolutely no idea.
American politics: you can be a freakish weirdo with bizarre religious beliefs and a penchant for unctuous, faux-Shakespearean speachifying who takes Phil freaking Gramm as your economic adviser and everything's cool...  But screw around on your wife and you're out, buster...

Nope. Or I respectfully disagree. I point to David, "DC Madam" customer, Vitter of La. Also whatsis face who "hiked" the Appalachian trail while really hanging out with his mistress...Mark Sanford (then Governor, then out, now a representative). I'm sure there are a few others.

Yeah, you're right of course. I don't mean that infidelity really does nuke people's political careers. I was really just making fun of the fact that people seem to take infidelity as decisively bad, but care so little about obviously daft political positions.

Also in fact: I think that infidelity (if the relationship isn't an "open" one) really *is* pretty good evidence that someone is an asshole. I do think it's excusable in many cases, and it's not decisive evidence of evil...but someone who lies to the person they love most...hell...I'm not going to trust them with the levers of power.

Republicans seem to get away with it more than Democrats do (Spitzer? Weiner, etc.). Given that evangelicals heavily favor republicans I've often thought there's something in the evangelical mind set, that as long as a person repents and asks forgiveness, all is fine. Just a hypothesis.
