Manne and Stanley: "When Free Speech Becomes A Political Weapon"

   This is really, really bad.
I'm trying to spend less time yelling at clouds...so I'm going to try to resist the urge to go through it in detail. I plan to merely gesture at it disapprovingly and move on...

It's actually kind of hilarious in my estimation. I don't mean to detract from your attempt to turn your eyes from these disasters by discussing the particular stupidity in question here, but the article seems like a big roundabout way of rhetorically asking what one is to do when one wants so desperately to make other people shut up. It's trying to reject the accusation that Neo-PCers are about suppressing speech with which they disagree by proposing that there's a legitimate reason to engage in such attempts to suppress speech which is totally compatible with freedom of speech as a principle.

It's like watching a goofy, unheard-of gymnast enter the national stage at a very public event to attempt a heretofore purely theoretical maneuver which may well be impossible...only to land directly on his face.

Question: Is anyone actually talking about the substance of these complaints? 'Cause, all I see are some very, very slim and scattered reports of immediately forgettable incidents lazily chained together as though they imply some grand structural racism.

I would very much hate to be in the wrong regarding something as insidious and awful as a racist organization, but it would really help a lot if students had some sort of evidence for their complaints which was slightly more weighty than purported poop swastikas and the occasional drunken white moron stumbling about and sputtering something racist.

Maybe they do? I haven't seen it.
