The Infamous Ads
O.k., so the ads that show up on the blog don't pay me any cash until the total runs up to $100. You guys have been complaining about 'em--I rarely see 'em, because I only view the blog through blogger when I write it or moderate comments.
Anyway, I've left 'em up out of laziness, but now I'm wondering: is it o.k. to leave 'em up until I get my (measly) hundred bucks, or are they so objectionable that I really ought to take 'em down right now. Or are they so objectionable that I should take them down now specifically because it would be bad to wait on such a thing for the purpose of making money--that is, is leaving them up selling a little part of my soul or something?
The house renovation is going rather badly, so, believe it or not, 100 bucks sound pretty good to me right about now, but not good enough to sell even a fraction of my soul.
So I'm soliciting advice.

You might as well wait to get the $100, but is there any way to move the googleads box to the side of the screen, or having them side by side instead of stacked vertically?
I wouldn't worry about it. I only commented because I thought it was kinda funny.
I have no idea how anyone in our media culture can possibly not have adapted to ads by filtering them out. But buying and voting suggest inadequate bullshit filtering, as you recently blogged.
Keep your ads. I just glanced at 'em, and I can't remember them a minute later.
Gee, Winston, I'd love to let you get your hundo, but if i see one more ad for Ann Coulter's column, I'm afraid I'm going to become Teabagged and start waving around a misspelled sign on a highway median.
Keep-'em. I'll keep clicking (particularly on the more obnoxious ones!).
I am assuming that you simply need the clicks, is that correct?
Best,
Jim
Actually, I have nothing against your ads. They're not usually intrusive, and sometimes they are so off topic as to be amusing.
Leave em up, and keep hoping for those $100.

All I see is banners at the top. Maybe they are affecting me subliminally, but I'm not even aware of what they say. If you get some recompense that makes me happy. I like both your thinking and your writing.
Actually, one of the terms of service is, roughly, that I never encourage anyone to click on the ads or something like that.
So I hereby make it clear that I am not encouraging anyone to click on the ads.
But as to your question, Jim: yes, I get a small sum when people click on the ads--but not enough to warrant you wasting any time clicking on them. Something like 1.5 cents...or maybe .15 cents. I don't really know.
WS,
I do not feel in any way encouraged to continue clicking on the ads. In fact, I suggest that you simply forget that they are there until such time as $100 appears.
Good luck with the house!
Best,
Jim
