Who Am I Leaning Toward This Week?

The fascinating answer here.

I've thought for a long time that Dodd is the most attractive candidate for many reasons, not the least of which is that he speaks well and directly, and has lots of experience. And he gets virtually no coverage, and won't. It's too bad.

With Dodd polling at 5% in his home state, and Quinnipiac saying
68 – 26 percent among Democrats that Dodd should drop out, is this another of your Wes Clark tactics to stay out of the line of fire?

Dodd, Obama, and Clinon are all US Senators -- positions of some power in our government. Of them, only Dodd is using the full power of the office to advance what he believes to be right. He tried, e.g., to put a hold on the FISA bill and then to filibuster it when it still had the telcon immunity provision.

I consider this an appropriate action by a Senator, candidate or not. Dodd's willingness to do what is right even when it comes at some political cost is, quite simply, leadership in action. This is true even if you believe it is motivated, in part, by a desire to advance his presidential bid.

I am disappointed that neither Clinton nor Obama appear to be willing to use the power they have now, to do what is right.

Good actions deserve reward. Contributing money is a reward, so is promoting a candidate on one's blog.

I've told you why I like Dodd. Why, WS, are you leaning toward him?

I'm with you on all that, jim b. I'm also impressed by Dodd's general orientation with regard the terrorism problem, and with regard to the deterioration of civil rights, and with lots of seemingly peripheral positions like his position on family farms and decriminalizing marijuana.

Furthermore, his depth of understanding seems unrivaled by anyone in the race on either side, with the possible exception of Biden...who, I take it, is basically unelectable for fairly well-known reasons. He also strikes me as a real straight-shooter, which is, of course, very rare in this kind of business.

My orientation has been changing a lot, so who knows where I'll be a month from now. But right now Dodd's more-or-less my man, hopeless though that cause might be.

Personally, I'm still leaning Edwards, especially since he's actually got a shot at winning the nomination. However, I absolutely agree that Dodd is winning a lot of points for his principled stand on the telecom immunity issue. In fact, I was part of the flood of individuals making donations to his campaign right afterward. Not because I think he has a chance in Hell of winning, but just because his voice is an important one to have out there right now, as an example to the cowardly hacks like Senators Clinton and Obama who talk big then throw America under the bus when it comes time to act.

So, yeah. Go, Dodd! Whoever gets the nomination would do very well to pick him for VP.

Evan Bayh, who actually would have been our best hands-across-the-aisle choice for president. I might have voted for him meself.

The fix is in, at least with Hillary, TVD's word up.

I don't know if you saw it, WS, but Dodd took Bill O'Reilly apart when he appeared on the Factor this summer. He was defending the Yearly Kos convention against O'Reilly's slamming it for "hate speech". It's worth checking out on YouTube if you haven't seen it.

I haven't examined Dodd very closely mainly because I don't think he has a chance...It is a little strange that even Richardson is polling ahead of Dodd in Iowa and New Hampshire.
