The Return of Tawana Brawley

More evidence that you never, ever, ever have to admit you are wrong, or that you lied, no matter how strong the evidence. Exhibit A: Tawana Brawley. Just keep asserting your case. Just keep denying the evidence. Just be tenacious and show strong conviction. It's never over so long as you're willing to keep talking. Assertion has a hypnotic effect.

God, we are a stupid people.

(And don't forget Al Sharpton's role in all of this. And don't forget he was a Democratic presidential candidate. We got our own crazies, yes we do. Makes Kucinich and his UFOs look like a big improvement...)

Yeah, Sharpton lied. Bush lied. Same deal.

I hear you bigtime, O My Brother, loud and clear, unless I misread this shot to right field. But where shall we go from here? Abandon Tawana? Abandon the Iraqi people?

It's your call, my mugwump pal, although it's really the next president's, because the feckless Pelosi and Reid and Murtha ain't gonna outflank Dubya, because that's how the Constitution was set up. So here we are.

And for you, my Mystical friend, this is the genius of our system per the Founders and Aristotle---the mixed regime between democracy and aristocracy. It's a sorry thing to say that Dubya was our most meritorious, our best and brightest nominee for the executive branch, but our new crop of flawed or insufficiently qualified candidates indicates this is still the fact.

Kerry, Gore? Dole, Mondale? Mike Dukakis? [Ooooops, I voted for him.]

Adlai Stevenson? Yeah, whatever.

LOOOOOOL

Oh, man. For a second there I thought you were being serious.

Is Kucinich's UFO experience a reason to discount him or just an excuse to stay with the irrelevant mainstream?

Well, I think it kind of depends on the details of the case, and I've only heard second-hand reports. Seeing a flying object that you can't identify is no big deal--happens to everybody. Getting "instructions in your mind"...different thing entirely...

Though, as I've said before, it's way less crazy that thinking that you talk to God...

But Winston, Bush was so articulate and compelling in those debates. He never had any substance abuse problems that would bar one from being so much as a grocery bagger at Food Lion, and he faithfully served without going AWOL.

How can you say he wasn't our best and brightest!? You must be a terrorist or something.

Actually, the underqualified Bush was surprising adequate. Gore lost the election in the debates by acting weird.

So then, one should view "acting weird" as worse than:

1) Being a drunk.
2) Being arrested for DUI.
3) Being a coke-head.
4) Going AWOL during one's military service.
5) Staring blankly into space for much of a debate.

I'm not judging. It is what it is.

Obama out there admitting drug use. Says it was a huge waste of time.

Ditto here, and good on him. Very good.

Bush was a drunk, admitted it, says he cleaned up.

Good on him, too.

In the debates, Tom must mean, unless he's still joking around.

Yes, I was referring to the debates. Your de rigeur stab at his presidency is duly noted.

Yes, TVD, with only nearly 7 years into his Presidency, only morons and Leftists would dare attempt an evaluation of the Bush Administration, at this point in time.....................

Even morons take a day off now and then, DA. Not leftists, tho.

We wouldn't know about all the nefarious doings of Leftists like wearing Che t-shirts and foaming at the mouth about Bush if it weren't for you, TVD.

Yah, but everybody has their cross to bear, and that's mine.

And the Gulag still ain't funny. Sorry, mate.

You're not trying to get the last word against Tom, are you, DA?

My apparent failure to acquit myself of the high crime of laughing at the Gulag according to the thymos of our beloved Judge/Legate to In partibus infidelium near and far is lamentable, but inevitable when dealing with someone as irony-impaired as TVD.

I'm happy to leave the last word when it doesn't involve me personally.

Yes, TVD, pronouncing guilt isn't something I take personally from anyone, I prefer Menckens' standard reply to his correspondents who didn't like something in his writings:

Dear Sir(or Madam): You may be correct

That's all TVD needs, a not proven verdict so that we can sing If I had a Hammer around the campfire at the end of the day...........

Yes, I like that formulation, DA, the variables of the world being so numerous, our hearts so untrue. Fallibilism and all that.

Further, failing genuine joint inquiry, an exchange of views and arguments is all a comments section can reasonably accomodate.

All I know is that I do not know, altho I have a few ideas...

I prefer critical rationalism myself, being a scientific type and all that.

Your fallibilism seems to leave you when you write about Leftists and critics of the current Administration, but perhaps that's just a perceptual mistake on my part.

To clarify the understanding via Gizoogle:

Yo fallibizzle seems ta leave you whiznen you write `bout Leftists, critics of tha current Administrizzles but perhaps thats J-to-tha-izzust a perceptual mistakes on mah pizzay . I started yo shit and i'll end yo' shit.
