Slacking Off On the Job

While I'm at my job (in my office, etc.), I'm slacking off ____% of the time.

Fill in the blank.

5%. I'm a mailman, they keep us busy. I think anything less than 5% slacking is basically sweatshop conditions, because you need to slow down or burn out eventually. I've had jobs that approached 50% slacking, and that's also bad. You get lazy; even small chores seem onerous.

Well, since part of my job requirement is to be a warm body (i.e. be available to answer questions etc) can I actually slack off?

I say no. They're paying me to sit here in front of a computer and be available, so this means they're paying me to read blogs when I don't have anything else to do.

Ah, the joys of software support.

Of course once I actually get an office and don't have to function all day as a warm body, *then* things'll be different.

Well, I'm currently unemployed, so the answer is N/A for me, I suppose.

At my previous job (as a server), the answer would have been 0%. Not only did we have no internet access in the restaurant, but it was hard enough to sit down for five minutes without my boss screeching at me. (Breaks? Lunch? What're those? I wasn't even allowed to study during slow times.)

20-100%. But since I'm not on the clock and eat only what I kill, as long as I bring back a body now and then to cover my shop's overhead, the only one who gets shorted is me, which seems fair.

Actually, I've been doing a lot of work at work lately. Everybody needs a change now and then.

Cushy work study job as an office assistant, probably around 30-40% depending on what time of year it is.

Internship with interest group, probably around 20% during slow weeks (which are pretty much done with for the year, so it's probably closer to 10% now). I keep pretty occupied.
