Rush's New Drug Problem

So, Rushster, what's with all the poke?

Now, as you know, I don't think the gub'mint has any authority whatsoever to tell us what we can and cannot eat, drink, smoke, chew, snort, lick or even--if you're a real moron--shoot up.

But since Rush is such an enormous asshole, I have to say that I do take some pleasure in his newest humiliation. He's a really bad guy, and he deserves stuff like this.

What always burns me up about this sort of thing, though, is that this guy can be a stupid, dishonest asswipe doing his darndest to destroy the soul of the country every day and somehow that's just fine... But suddenly he takes some recreational drugs and he's a demon. Crazy, man.

"Talent on loan from God" is how Rush refers to himself.

I guess God has taken back certain talents.

I think Digby is just so much more charitable and high-minded on this issue, showing true "Christain forgiveness." He sets a high tone for us all to aspire to.

Digby's article is disgusting. If you embrace it, you aspire no higher than the gutter.

But I would say a) Underage anything is more disgusting than words and b) LL cracked me up with that one.

TVD, your sentiment is exactly how some folks, (Professor Avenger, myself, etc.) feel about the ignorance and stupidity that Rush gets paid to spew over the airwaves everyday.

I would suggest listening to Rush's comment today about his trip he made on his show(or rather how he said he couldn't talk about it) and then you'll perhaps know what others find disgusting as well.

Let's reverse roles and do what we usually do around here: I'll say Rush never said anything as bad as Digby did, you'll give me an example of something that you think is, and I'll wave it away saying there's no comparison.

Well, there was that time he put up a picture of a dog and said that it was a picture of Chelsea Clinton...

Also: Digby is, let's face it, not a national celebrity. Rush is huge. Maybe Digby's as bad--I'm way more than willing to consider examples...but, again, it's a weird comparison.

You know, WS---and I don't mean this as a slag---I'm going to try to give up "you toos" and analogies and everything else that's not exactly what I'm talking about.

Such things are intended to provide perspective and increase understanding, but they quickly become the main event.

And blanket statements about what Limbaugh, or Maher or anybody "always" does are so vague as to be mere cant. Democrats are destroying the country. Republicans are Nazis. Let's just get it all out of the way.

I thought what Digby wrote sucked. I thought LL was funny. The end. Thank you.

"Homie nicht spielt das."

TVD, unfortunately, I can't just quote the transcript of what Rush said, you have to hear the creepy voice he said it in to get the full effect.

I honestly don't know what you'd have to say about it, and that makes it interesting, at the very least :)

I heard him one time mention an article where scientists estimated the number of species in a given area of a rain forest as being in the hundreds of thousands in number, and he spent 10 minutes or so rhetorically asking "How do they know this? They don't know anything blah-blah-blah" anti-intellectualism that wasn't worth of even the college dropout that Flush is.

YMMV.

Quite so, DA. Another thing on my self-improvement list: I've learned but still have not absorbed the lesson that quoting anyone brings down the weight of their own human baggage, and every human has folly and therefore baggage.

The ad hominem impulse is simply too strong in human reasoning.

If I say Rush is funny and incisive, I get his baggage, too. But nobody has a perfect record, even oneself. I've said and done things I wish I hadn't. I've had opinions that didn't hold up.

So later for all that, too. Rush is funny and incisive. He does 3 hours a day off the top of his head and his record for factual accuracy is still better than the New York Times'. He has more politcal wisdom than the whole Kososphere put together.

Is he a good person? I don't give a damn.

God, Tom, please tell me you're totally kidding about that last bit.

I think you're right, actually--*tu quoque*s are s'posed to provide perspective...and comparison in e.g. two-party systems. But they're way overused and misused.

So let's lose 'em.

But--objectively, non-comparatively, honestly, straight-up no bullshit--Rush is a bad man. He may be funny, though his humor never appealed to me that I can remember. If he's incisive I never heard it.

He's just a more-or-less random word generator. So long as the last character string is equivalent to "liberals suck," his audience eats it up.

He lowered the level of political discourse in this country, increased polarization, and radically misinformed and mislead a particularly volatile and vulnerable demographic.

He's a sonofabitch.

Look, under duress I'll even concede that Bill Buckley has his virtues...but not that SOB Limbaugh. It just ain't true.

Vague. Rush always this Rush always that. It's like arguing with my wife, except it's Tom you never do this and you never do that.

I'm swearing this shit off, WS. Rush said something untoward in 2004. BFD. So did I. So did you.

In fact, you did it yesterday. BFD. IMO, you've done far worse far more often. But I love you anyway.

TVD, please try not to bring your domestic problems to the table here.

As for vauge, I can only tell you that the gaffaw in his voice telling his listeners by intonation what he couldn't say in words(what I would call a metamessage) would've been better suited to a relative of
Tsathoggua than someone theoretically native to our galaxy.

That's all I'm sayin'.
