An Inconvenient Truth: True

AIT gets the tumbs up from most climatologists who had seen it in an AP poll. (via Metafilter)

You're not on to the AP, yet, I guess. They do this all the time.

As NR notes, check this out from the story:

...mostly got the science right, said all 19 climate scientists who had seen the movie or read the book and answered questions from The Associated Press.

The AP contacted more than 100 top climate researchers by e-mail and phone for their opinion. Among those contacted were vocal skeptics of climate change theory. Most scientists had not seen the movie, which is in limited release, or read the book.

Most didn't see the movie.

Or read the book. Over 80%.

And do you expect the scientists who are skeptical of the theory would run out and see Gore's movie?

Wouldn't you think those in sympathy with it would be most likely to have seen it?

As any sort of responsible journalism, this story is rubbish.

Good point...though I am the kind of guy who tends to rush to see the stuff I disagree with...

But we do have to wait and see on this one.

That's why you're my hero, man.

Wouldn’t ‘top climate researchers’ have published some sort of peer reviewed paper in the last ten years or so?

"Wouldn’t ‘top climate researchers’ have published some sort of peer reviewed paper in the last ten years or so?"

Yes, quite a few of them have, though it might be a bit too simple-minded to refer to them simply as skeptics. You need to separate a number of hypotheses that tend to get lumped together under the rubric of 'global warming' or 'climate change.'

Baliunas
Christy
Gray
Landsea
Lindzen
von Storch
and that's just a beginning.

I recommend that anybody interested in the scientific basis of the "global warming debates" digest the just released report from the National Academies of Science titled "Surface Temperature Reconstructions for the Last 2,000 Years." Then consider when Mr Gore is "telling it like it is."

The National Academy of Sciences said; “The IPCC's conclusion that most of the observed warming of the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations accurately reflects
the current thinking of the scientific community on this issue." Out of the 928 abstracts of papers published in refereed scientific journals between 1993 and 2003 that referred to climate change, not one disputed that conclusion. Where are the skeptics papers?

The quote rentlord provides is from a 5-year-old statement, not the freshly minted report to which I referred. The literature review to which he refers has been severely criticized on methodological grounds. If you want to know where the "skeptics" papers are, you might start with a search for publications by people whose names I provided.

On the other hand, you can dig in you heels, refuse to look at the actual science, and pretend you know what you're talking about.
