Bay-B vs. K-Vandy

So given that the airwaves were saturated with the Cheney-shot-his-homeboy story last night, I did the only rational thing there was to do: I got stoned and watched the madness.

At one point I'm watching CNN and they have Bay Buchanan and Katrina van den Heuvel on there. Oh boy, thinks me, this will be informative. Here's my summary of the two positions:

Buchanan: This story is in the past. It's over. You traitorous liberal leeches want to try to stretch this thing out for another couple of days, be my guests. But there's no story here. It's over. It's so over that it basically never happened. Which means you made it up, you lying liberal butt-monkeys. You make me sick.

Van den Heuvel: This story provides irrefutable proof that the Bush administration and their corporate masters are power-mad liars with no regard for truth or the rule of law. Cheney shooting that guy is iron-clad evidence that the Bush administration lied about WMDs, and that it is the focus of evil in the modern world. Also: free Mumia!

This left me sitting there with my mouth open, and with a profound sense of emptiness in side.

Fortunately, I had some brownies.

Y'know, I think the only right way for the left to respond to Dead-Eye Dick's trick shot is to make jokes at his expense. And then duck.

At least Katrina is in the mainstream of something. (Is far-left a pejorative? Regardless, The Nation seems to have a seat at the table of our national debate.)

But Bay Buchanan? Who the hell is she? Somebody's sister.

Sorry, but I think the only reason CNN trots her out (and her 1% of the vote ex-Republican brother over on MSNBC) is to present caricatures of the right for the cognoscenti to feel superior to.

Yes Tom, it's the liberal media favoring the radical left again.

I can't believe how this happens over and over and over again...

Perhaps you have a better explanation of why the totally irrelevant Buchanans are still in the public eye, then.

While you're at it, you can tell me your substantive differences with Katrina van den Heuvel, or the difference between her rhetorical style and many of your commenters'. I'm slow sometimes.

Well, it could be a nefarious plot by the LM to make conservatives look bad...or it could be that almost any conservative windbag can snag a spot at the table with the MSM.

One could argue that it's the left that is, in fact, insulted by the pretense that KvH and BB are equivalent...

And, actually, as everybody and his brother has been noting, conservatives ARE way over-represented on shows of this kind. I was just surprised that they had an actual lefty on (way left of me). Usually it's one firebreathing conservative and one moderate...

Furthermore, I've seen shows on which *Phil Donahue* was representing the left. Believe that?

Apparently, "moderate" is anyone who agrees with you, "fire-breathing" is anyone who doesn't.

KvH is far closer to the center of your party than the Buchanans are to mine.

Even if your proposition is true, I'd prefer that "moderate" conservatives be matched with "fire-breathing" lefties, so that the left would be the ones looking bad.

As to what everybody and his brother notes or knows, no, they don't.

TVD doesn't want to have to answer for Bob Barr, Bay Buchanan, or Dick Cheney's BBs. Bill Bennett might be on the bad list, too. Who can blame Tom?

My question: How long before he doesn't want to have to answer for Republicans who have only one 'B' initial?

My guess: Not soon enough.

You seem to have an obsession with double initials, LL.

:-)

(Your comment was very clever. Could have lived without the last bit, tho. I'm quite willing to stand up for somebody I agree with, and I take plenty of heat around here for doing it.)
