Sasha Stone: Spare Us the Fake Outrage About Trump's "Gatsby Party"

I didn't even know about this.
Seems like not a great idea to me, and I expect the Dems will get a small rhetorical win from it.
But on all the substantive points, Stone seems right.
In particular:
a. About the point of The Great Gatsby
and
b. That prominent swaths of the left are always doing this kind of uber-Richy-Rich crap...and are much grosser and less-likeable about it.

Of course, the left can respond: they're generally movie stars and whatnot--not the President.
Fair point.
...though really a point about rhetoric/"optics." It goes without saying that nothing about a Halloween party at Trump's private home will affect anyone getting SNAP in any way.
Kinda seems like more trolling by Trump. This is the kind of thing that'll drive the blue base even crazier...but probably have few other effects.

I don't really understand the shutdown. I tend to agree with the Pubs about not extending the Obamacare subsidies...but it's not an issue I find very interesting. I've just come to accept that there are not enough hours in the day to understand all this stuff. So I just generally and tentatively go along with the party I disagree with less at any given time...which right now is the Pubs.
