David Weigel: How Trump's DC Takeover Divided the City's Democrats

Well, the Democrats are basically divided between (a) remaining reasonable centrists who more-or-less recognize (even if they can't admit) that their party's left wing is insane, and (b) the insane left-wing Democrats aforementioned... Group (a) still votes blue basically because of [i] tribalism and [ii] TDS.*

   Things are so bad in DC that some from group (a) (above) are forced by facts and reason to side with Trump on this one.

   Note that the MSM got its talking-points on this one, and is flat-out lying--and misleading in other ways--about it. Yes, crime has come down since the peak a few years ago caused by BLM madness and other crazy leftist ideas and policies...and yes it's lower now than it was at its highest point in living memory in the '90s...and yes reported crime is down because [1] people report fewer crimes when such reports are ineffective, and [2] many police departments are not reporting crimes to the government.

   Perhaps the most infuriating and baffling thing about all this is that--as is so common now--we have two opposing positions that seem to be about equally supported by the electorate: a sane position and an insane one.

   Eventually, though, when things matter--as crime and policing do--the weight of facts can cause even cultists to face facts.

* Well, and, of course, because sane people can absolutely refuse to vote for Trump...
