Charles Lane: Why I Changed My Mind About The Death Penalty

I agree with just about all of this--though I'm not sure about the deterrent effect of the death penalty. And: it might be more of a deterrent if it were applied more quickly. (Also, I don't think I agree with his criticism of Trump's ad after the Central Park Jogger atrocity.)
I think the most important point is one that Ann Coulter changed my mind about: it's not, in fact, applied against innocent people; when you look at the actual evidence, it turns out they're guilty. And as Sean Fitzgerald, the Actual Justice Warrior, has argued, organizations such as The Innocence Project are dedicated to getting criminals released, innocent or guilty, and they commonly lie to do so.
But this is a debate about which I have no special knowledge. So I'm just kibbitzing here.
