Here's something relevant.
It used to be a tough call between coal and nuclear...but if we take the contemporary conventional wisdom about climate change seriously, I'd think the balance of reasons would shift radically in favor of nuclear. Especially given all the new alternatives to LWRs.
So here's something that would decrease my climate semi-skepticism: progressives embrace nuclear--e.g. reopening Yucca Mountain.
Um. You are preaching to the choir--mostly. There are serious engineering problems with a lot of nuclear plants. But pebble bed is fine. The big problem remains disposal. That is a fundamentally hard problem--you want to separate nuclear waste roughly by half-life. Stuff with 10-100 year half life needs a different solution to waste in the 1000s of years. It is difficult and filthy chemical engineering.

What about the way France doesn't, by reusing the old fisile material in the reactors? You end up with less but hotter waste, but that is why we have yucca mountain.
