Alright so I admitted that I not only read Red Storm Rising, but enjoyed the hell out of it. Despite Pete Mack's extensive list of Stuff I Ought To Read, I was jonesing for more RSR...so I started reading Patriot Games. I'd seen the movie, but whatever.
Man, I am not liking this book at all. I'd normally have chucked it by now...but the RSR effect is strong...
Oh yeah. Clancy went down hill fast. His stuff after the first books is pretty awful. I DNFed on Patriot Games. Cardinal in the Kremlin is a bit better--it's one of only 3 that I actually finished reading. (Red October is his best.) He may have written other readable books, but I stopped even looking at titles pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, Griffin is the guy to try. And Patrick O'Brien, of course. He's had multiple series written in homage.
If you're looking for a good spy novel, check out The Charm School by Nelson DeMille.

I'm not sure I've ever read a single spy novel, A, but I'll put it on the list, thx.
