Maybe send the link to Drum...this strikes me as inaccurate in many places, but I don't have the background to pick it apart.
And I do not think the VAT hits everyone equally since there are mechanisms in place to even things out so not all are paying the same percentage of income (The Benefit and the Burden by Bruce Bartlett discusses the VAT at some length...but again, I am no expert).
