he can't bring himself to obvious conclusion: Weekly Standard subscribers prefer to be disinformed. That's exactly what they're buying. It's exactly what they want to buy. They're conservative (in the contemporary American sense of the word) because they'd rather be faithful to indefensible beliefs than to change. They'd rather rationalize than reason.
