I've loaned it to people that weren't fantasy readers, and they loved it.

I also had my grandmother (who prefers science fiction, mystery, and romance to fantasy) read "Her Majesty's Dragon" and she really enjoyed it and read the rest of the series and is waiting impatiently with us for the fourth book.<BRRandom Michelle Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13817444379694818074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5264937.post-69514434193798936632007-08-27T23:56:00.000-04:002007-08-27T23:56:00.000-04:00Let me second Tom's recommendation for "Lord Valen...Let me second Tom's recommendation for "Lord Valentine's Castle", as well as Michelle K's recommendation of "Swordspoint."

Another winner (sorcery but no swordplay) is "Thomas the Rhymer", also by Ellen Kushner.

Wow -- I just discovered (thank you, Google) that Kushner has two new novels out in the same setting as Swordspoint:
One, <A HREF="http://www.amazon.com/Jim Baleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09322487665818601057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5264937.post-27375192055368683132007-08-27T22:15:00.000-04:002007-08-27T22:15:00.000-04:00My favorite sci-fi author, Robert Silverberg, turn...My favorite sci-fi author, Robert Silverberg, turned to fantasy around 1980 with "Lord Valentine's Castle," which won the Hugo.
