It is not a popular notion in the military. Iran is a much tougher nut than Iraq, for a number of reasons: * Geography--in Iraq, the mountains are mostly Kurdish and Yadizi, so did not resist * Military organization and doctrine . Iran's military is organized for irregular warfare * Nationalism. The US will be seen as liberators even less than in Iraq. The government is if not entirely popular, at least somewhat representative. * Population -- nearly 3x bigger in Iran * economy--despite embargo, Iran's is much bigger and stronger than Iran's under Saddam.
