(I would add that criticism of Clinton was not unified---there were some opposed on isolationist grounds, and it was John McCain's position that more force was needed.)
Oh, I just grabbed a poll, any poll to kick things off. Tellya the truth, my attention on stuff wasn't as focused as it is now. I was generally against the Kosovo adventure because it was a cesspit that had nothing to do with us. But I also felt if Clinton felt that strongly about it, it wasn't as if it was wrong.
"Many Republicans were very critical of and did not support President Clinton's policies in Kosovo. Do you think they were right or wrong to be so critical?"
69% of Democrats said they were wrong. I'd say they were urging unity because the course of the war wasn't certain at the time of the poll.
I'll continue to maintain that Clinton's Kosovo adventure is the best control we have for judging partisanship over current events.
ReplyDeleteA poll from that time is here.

Tom,
ReplyDelete(A) I don't understand why you think that this issue gives us the best case. Could you elaborate?
(B) I don't see how these numbers would help since I don't see before-and-after stats, so we can't measure change.

I find that probative.
Better explanation:
ReplyDeleteThe Kosovo intervention was justified.
The Republicans, of course, opposed everything Clinton did, including trying to kill bin Laden and, well, existing.
